How could I not have a very happy Fathers Day?
I have the most amazing, special and wonderful kids in the world. Sorry to break it to the rest of you, but you are all in a fight for the second-most amazing, special and wonderful kids — that’s just the hard reality of it.
I woke up this morning to see Emily grinning ear to ear and holding a bowl of Grapenuts for me. She remembered seeing my mix Grapenuts with yogurt before, and she had emptied two strawberry yogurts into the massive bowl of cereal.
That’s just the start of the day. I have a feeling it’s going to be AWESOME!
The family gave me a few gifts that I actually liked and needed. They were the stereotypical Fathers Day stuff — ties, dress shirts, dress socks and a brand new suit — but I actually needed this stuff. Though my current suit is still just fine, it is about 10 years old and it was time for me to update my look.
At church, I was presented with a Sugar Daddy corsage. Kind of funny, but it was just the little caramel candy wrapped up in green flowers and baby’s breath much like the pens you see at the check-out counter at various businesses.
The kids sang a couple of songs to me for the primary program and then it was off to Sunday School where I sat next to the ‘smokin’ hotest’ woman in the building. She even let me hold her hand!
Post-church dinner was nummy. Roast chicken, potatoes and carrots with corn on the cob and an extremely rich chocolate pie for deseret.
At about 3:30, Mandi called. It was approaching midnight in Rome and it was her last night in Europe — she’s got more than 30 hours of airports, airplanes and travel waiting for her. We had the longest chat since she left and she sounded, for the first time, like she missed us and couldn’t wait to come home.
Maybe that was the lack of clean underwear talking.
I then sat down to watch the Tour de Suisse on TV with all three kids snuggled up to me eating a bowl of popcorn and eating creamies. We made a quick trip to the office so I could sign my timecard and the kids all came with me and ate a bunch of candy while we were there.
Now, we’re getting everyone ready for bed and we’re going to clean Mandi’s room so it’s all set for her when she gets back. I don’t think the poor girl wants to wake up on her first day back and see a humungous pigsty of a room that she needs to clean.
I must say, it’s one of the best Fathers Days I’ve ever had.

Since Chalisa has set the precident for this being an appropriate topic . . .
I was just downstairs with the girls watching “Are you Smarter than a 5th Grader” with Melissa and Emily. During a commercial break Jennifer Love Hewitt is the star of a commercial for Hanes Comfort Fit bras or something like that.
In case you aren’t familiar with Ms. Hewitt, she’s rather well endowed. I guess she’s a natural for the product endorsement.
When the commercial ends, Emily asks “Dad, will I have boobs like those?”
“Go ask your mom” was the only answer I could come up with.

Mandi called!
It was about 10 p.m. in Florence (or Firenze, if you’re Italian) and she had just returned to her hotel with her friends. When my cell phone rang, I answered and she was chatting in the background — “Oh, he better pick up!” — and we chatted for about 15 minutes.
She is in love — with Italy, especially the food. She’s calling herself a vegetarian now and said she’s eating the best pasta, vegetables, tomatoes, soups and bread in the world.
But the milk? Well, she hates it. It’s warm, thick and yucky.
She bought a Prada bag (which I think is probably a fake), took a bunch of pictures and was lucky enough to not get her bag stolen while she was on the beach in Cannes. She said the group had a teacher sitting on the sand with all the bags when a guy on a scooter drove by and did a snatch and grab with a few bags. Mandi’s was not stolen but a few others were. Her passport was in the bag at the time so she is a lucky girl.
Her group is touring with a couple of other groups and apparently has made friends with a girl from Nebraska named Heather.
She sounded very happy and full of energy. In the morning, she leaves for Rome, Sorrento, Capri, Pompeii and Rome again before returning home in five days.

Here’s the entire email from the teacher’s husband:
Lara called this afternoon and said they were all doing well and that they were in Florence. It has been a nice trip and not too hot so that has made it bearable.
With that much info, it’s hard not to know what’s going on. I almost feel like I’m there. 😉
Maybe when she saw Michelangelo’s David, she was so aghast at the nekkidness she forgot to call.

Emily and Melissa started their summer kids camps at the Murray Parks and Rec this week. They have been so excited to go do this, it’s like a big play day all morning for them.
Sam also started his summer adventure camps at his school. He thinks it’s just fun and games, but the teachers are actually working with them on kindergarten readiness stuff even though he’s still a year away from that.
Swim lessons for all three of them start this afternoon.
And Shana has had three babies this week already. She was hardly even showing!

Well, it’s not really her. But it’s the closest thing we have. She’s on Day 8 and still hasn’t called home other than on the first day to leave a message on my phone asking for money — or, rather, instructions on how to get money with her ATM card.
She visited Pisa today and is now in Florence, Italy where the travel itinerary states: “Possibility of disco in central Florence.”
If she’s shaking her booty on the dancefloor, I’m guessing she won’t call home tonight, either. 😉

No, she still won’t call home. But her tour director posted a couple pictures on the website.
There is her group (and some strange stangers) in front of some old building and statue in Madrid on Day One of her adventure. Mandi is on the far left in the blue shirt and tan shorts. There appears to be a witch with a broomstick and Freddy Kruger joining the picture.
Again in Madrid on Day Two. Mandi is right in the middle, wearing a white shirt and light blue jacket. Again, there are some people posing that seem to have just joined the picture for the sake of joining the picture.
