The Best Daddy Ever

We’re having a great Fathers Day at our house, which is possible only because we have a great father at our house!  Happy Fathers Day, Jared.  You looked great in your new purple tie.

How could I not have a very happy Fathers Day?

I have the most amazing, special and wonderful kids in the world. Sorry to break it to the rest of you, but you are all in a fight for the second-most amazing, special and wonderful kids — that’s just the hard reality of it.

I woke up this morning to see Emily grinning ear to ear and holding a bowl of Grapenuts for me. She remembered seeing my mix Grapenuts with yogurt before, and she had emptied two strawberry yogurts into the massive bowl of cereal.

That’s just the start of the day. I have a feeling it’s going to be AWESOME!

I really do love my kids.

The family gave me a few gifts that I actually liked and needed. They were the stereotypical Fathers Day stuff — ties, dress shirts, dress socks and a brand new suit — but I actually needed this stuff. Though my current suit is still just fine, it is about 10 years old and it was time for me to update my look.

At church, I was presented with a Sugar Daddy corsage. Kind of funny, but it was just the little caramel candy wrapped up in green flowers and baby’s breath much like the pens you see at the check-out counter at various businesses.

The kids sang a couple of songs to me for the primary program and then it was off to Sunday School where I sat next to the ‘smokin’ hotest’ woman in the building. She even let me hold her hand!

Post-church dinner was nummy. Roast chicken, potatoes and carrots with corn on the cob and an extremely rich chocolate pie for deseret.

At about 3:30, Mandi called. It was approaching midnight in Rome and it was her last night in Europe — she’s got more than 30 hours of airports, airplanes and travel waiting for her. We had the longest chat since she left and she sounded, for the first time, like she missed us and couldn’t wait to come home.

Maybe that was the lack of clean underwear talking.

I then sat down to watch the Tour de Suisse on TV with all three kids snuggled up to me eating a bowl of popcorn and eating creamies. We made a quick trip to the office so I could sign my timecard and the kids all came with me and ate a bunch of candy while we were there.

Now, we’re getting everyone ready for bed and we’re going to clean Mandi’s room so it’s all set for her when she gets back. I don’t think the poor girl wants to wake up on her first day back and see a humungous pigsty of a room that she needs to clean.

I must say, it’s one of the best Fathers Days I’ve ever had.
