Charming Children

Emily (to Jared):  “You are an older person.  Kinsey is middle-aged, not you.”

Sam: “Umm, dad?  Can you change my name to ‘Muscle Man’?”

Slower, harder and more painful

That describes LOTOJA ’09.

Headwinds, hamstring issues and a mental/physical bonk in Montpelier Canyon killed me.

Oh, well.

There’s always next year to chop some time off the personal record.

My Ironman in photos

I’m too cheap to buy photos for $29.

But I’ll copy some thumbnails and show ’em off no problem.

The swim was surprisingly hard. Not because of the distance or the wves, but because I couldn’t hold my line and added 300 meters (rough estimate) to the swim.

I love the way they made it look like I was leading the pack.

Once again, I’m ahead of somebody.

Same deal as last year.

I’m racing LOTOJA — that’s 206 miles in one day for the unfamiliar — and in the process I am trying to raise funds to fight cancer.

So, here’s the deal: Click THIS LINK and donate a few dollars to help me reach my goal.

All proceeds go directly to the Huntsman Cancer Foundation.

Do it.

Our family tradition

Whenever there is a birthday in the family, Shana bakes a delicious cake in our heart-shaped cake pan and a kid or two gets to apply the frosting.

It’s never a fancy cake, but it’s always filled with love and it’s gone ASAP.

Yummy.

Tri-geeks

Here they are, the tri amigos.

JT, Tanner and Jason cuddle for warmth before the race

Official results are not posted yet, but JT was fastest, then Tanner, then Jason. I finished somewhere between first and last.

As I crossed the finish line the announcer dude said my name and then something like “I think every Eborn from Utah County is in this triathlon.”

I answered “there are no Eborns from Utah County.”

UPDATE: Final Results have been posted.

In the Men’s 40-44 age group, Jared was 8th, Jason 16th.

In the Men’s 15-19 age group, JT ws 8th and Tanner 18th.

In the overall race, JT was 62nd at 1:13.01, Jared was 69th at 1:13.52, Tanner was 109th at 1:19.15 and Jason was 121st at 1:20.56.

There were 193 men in the race.

lotojalogo083Like Jason, I registered for LOTOJA 2009.

And, like Jason, I’m also doing the cancer fund-raiser thing.

This time, however, Shana wants to do the ride as well — but as part of a relay instead of going all 206 miles.

Shana wants to do either the Logan to Preston leg or the Afton to Alpine stretch. I’ll ride along with her if she gets to do the first leg and then I will take off for the mountains.

Who wants to be on her relay team? You’ll need a strong set of legs to get from Preston to Montpelier. Or you’ll need a strong set of legs to get from Montpelier to Afton.

If you’re up to it, you’ll have some pretty great memories and we’ll have a great dinner at the finish line.

Let’s race

I just signed up for the Icebreaker Triathlon. It’s a short race and I am throwing down the challenge to my brothers and their teenage sons.

Join me for a little swim, bike and run on March 28 at the American Fork Rec Center.

If you finish, I’ll buy lunch.

It’s not that long of a race, actually.

A 300 meter pool swim is followed by a 12 mile bike and 5K run.

If you can swim and ride a bike, you can do this — anyone can go 5k, even if you walk it.

If you’re feeling a little crazy, we can ride our bikes back to my house after the race and get another 25 miles in.

Bring it on.
