Our little girl is growing up.
Today was a big day in our little girl’s life. Junior Prom.
She spent the day having fun, stressing out, primping, smiling, laughing, playing, eating, dancing and being beautiful — as if she’s ever been anything else.
Her date, James Walsh, picked her up at about 11 a.m. for a pre-date activity of bouncing around on inflatable toys at one of those indoor inflatable-toy places.
She came home, had some lunch and immediately began getting herself ready for the night’s activities. An older friend from church came over to help her with her hair. She slipped into an amazing dress and off she went for dinner at a very fancy Italian place called Tuscany with James, four of his friends — they call themselves The Five Strong — and their dates in a limo.
Kinsey asked me to do the old-fashioned shotgun at the door routiine — but with a fate much worse than getting shot. She asked me to demonstrate for James how those little green cheerios Grandpa used to use every spring on the calves. I resisted the urge to make a very vivid memory in James’ mind and just wished them a fun night.
The dance was held at the Utah State Capitol in the Rotunda. It was quite the elegant setting and out Kinsey looked the part.
The girls lined up on one side of the rotunda, the boys on the other and they walked down the grand staircase in a promenade.
Very classy.
After that, Kinsey was forced to dance with her father … and she seemed to not hate it. Well, not completely hate it.
That’s one daughter down, two to go. Plus a son.
Prom sure is different now than when Kinsey’s parents went to Bear Lake and Uintah High Schools.
