I don’t remember parties like this when I was a teenager for two reasons.
1: I didn’t get invited to parties when I was a teenager and 2: I don’t think parties like this happened when I was a teenager.
Kinsey Amanda asked us if she could host a party this weekend. We told her “Sure, just as long as the crazy shenanigans end by 11 p.m. and we don’t have to drive anyone home when it’s over.”
And this is how it started.
A few kids gathered on our front yard and began to chit chat.
They were all dressed oddly. Modest tops, no underwear exposed for three inches above the waistband of their pants and they all had books with them.
Slowly the crowd grew until there were at least 15 of them — some were even boys! — and they took the party downstairs into the basement.
Then, the strangest things happened.
We heard singing. Not just the typical singing you might expect from a bunch of hip youngsters. Nope, there was no rowdy music, just some A Cappella stuff you might expect to hear from some rebellious thug — err, righteous angels.
You see, Kinsey Amanda’s party was a ‘Scripture Testimony’ party and these are becoming fairly popular at her school and in her circle of friends.
The friends gather at a home, scriptures in hand, and then have a couple of hours of non-supervized seminary.
And moms and dads across town breathe a sigh of relief when thinking this is the kind of ‘trouble’ their kid get into on weekends.
