Emily got a serious hair cut.
And doesn’t she look great!
It’s short, snazzy and cute as can be.

Emily (to Jared): “You are an older person. Kinsey is middle-aged, not you.”
Sam: “Umm, dad? Can you change my name to ‘Muscle Man’?”

Tanner’s not the only swimmer in the family.
Emily is part of the Murray Aquatics Club Pre-Comp team and is making quick progress as she learns the strokes.
Her favorite is called the ‘Cherry Bomb.’ She swims a few stokes, then dives and touches the bottom before coming back to the surface and repeating over and over again.
I’ve been swimming in another lane a few times as she practices and she’s pretty good. She looks like a little sea snake slipping through the water so gracefully.
Emily might not be the strongest kid or have the most endurance, but she is improving every time she swims and getting pretty darned good.
Now if only I could get her to ride a bike I’d have another triathlete in the family.

I snuck into my bedroom ast night to catch Emily on the computer.
Before she knew I was there, this is the picture I took from behind her.
She was going to leave it there for me to discover the next time I sat down to surf the Internet.

Emily, the sweetest little angle in the world, is a forward thinking — not to mention perfectly innocent and hopeful about all things Christmas — girl.
I just found this letter she typed up on the computer today: (misspellings left as she typed them)
Dear Santa,
May I have these things for Christmas?
- Green and Blue swimm suite
- Littlest pet shop
- Cheaper by the dozen the movie
- Paint set
- Gum (Minty)
- $2.00
- ABBA sound-track
- Red lipstick
- 1-2 Necklaces
- Stool
- 2-3 rectangled cardboard
- Bubble wrap
- 10 foot long tape roll
- Conditioner
- Talor Swift pillowcase
The things this awesome kid thinks of are so cute. And we’re so lucky to have her in our family.

The weather finally turned nice around these parts giving Emily and Melissa a chance to play soccer with their local team.
We don’t have star athletes in the family, but we do have active kids who like to get out and run around.
Melissa, of course, is the super active one who goes on impulse and without much delay. Emily is a little more cerebral and deliberate with her actions. The differences in their playing styles is pretty remarkable but quite fun to watch.
This year, they get to play on the same 1st-2nd grade team and that makes things much easier for us all. We don’t have two practices at two different location and two games at two different places.
It’s so much nicer to go to one park with both girls and let them do their thing.
The season is only five weeks long and the Dolphins — Emily and Melissa’s team — will win every game. That’s what happens when you just play and don’t keep score at this age.
They’ve got friends and classmates from school, the neighborhood and church on the team.

Emily’s school is great. It has lots of wonderful teachers and amazing activities.
It also comes up with a few ideas that don’t always make lot of sense.
Tuesday was one of those days. A few days before, they announced they were going to have a ‘grandparents’ program and they would sing songs and have cookies. That’s fine and dandy for those kids with grandma and grandpa in the neighborhood. But for Emily, the program came when both sets of grandparents would be busy at work — we stealthily asked to see what the availability was.
So Emily — much like many of the other kids in the class — sang to her parents, instead.
Actually, she sang to me and Sam since her mom was also at work and her dad crashed the grandparents-only program.
It was cute, very cute.

This morning while I was doing Emily’s hair:
Emily: “Mom, is Santa real?”
Mom: “What do you think?”
Emily: “Yes! Duh, that was obvious.”
