Day two of the Nightmare on Chesterbrook Cove is underway.

The kids are no longer puking, but the house still stinks — just not as much.

The Utah Disaster Kleenup crew was here most of the night ripping out carpet, bagging up toys, books, chairs and anything else that was on the floor and getting soaked by the floating doodoo. Luckily, most of our stuff was off the ground or in plastic bins. Still, there’s a lot of stuff we’ll be throwing away.

That means new toys for the kids!

And guess what, Jason and Rene. That old sleeper sofa/couch of yours that we so happily accepted from you 18 years ago will also finally be put to rest.

It also means the sheetrock and drywall for pretty much the entire basement will be ripped out. If it was just water, they’d dry it out and give us new baseboards. But since it was sewage seeping into the walls, we’re getting it outta here. Water dries nicely. Poop, well, it’s still poop when it dries and it’s in the walls, soooo …

We may even end up with a new furnace out of this because the current one shut down as a result of the water damage and it might be best to swap the 25-year-old thing for a newer, more efficient model.

The next time you visit our house, the basement will be free of graffiti, free of odors and ready for a cousins sleepover.

And, to make Shana extra happy as she deals with this in my absence, I’m leaving town this weekend to play bicycle games at Bear Lake.
