Today Sam and I had a visit with Dr. Hoffman at the Primary Childlen’s Pediatric Ophtalmology Clinic where we reconfirmed what we already knew.
His vision isn’t really getting worse, but it’s not getting better with the corrective lenses and the daily patching.
So, we’ve got him scheduled for surgergy to manipulate the muscles around his right eye and kind of force him to use it more often. This should prevent him from being cross-eyed, but he’ll still need glasses because his vision is 20/125 in the right eye and 20/80 in the left eye. By getting his brain to use both eyes, the hope is they will strengthen and the vision will either get better or at least stay the same and then later on, perhaps, Lasik is an option.
Before anyone freaks out, it’s a minor procedure done thousands of times by this doc.
Sam will be OK.
Pretty sure our friends child had this done — it helped him tons. Good luck Sam!!
You sound confident. I don’t know much about those things, so I’ll just take your word for it and pray a lot.
We love you Sam and are glad you have a loving family to help you. You are a great young man.
Love Grandpa Bart
My sister Sandra had two of her boys with cross eyes
and they did surgery on them wayyyyyyy back and they
have done fine. It’s wonderful what can be done in the
medical field to help people when years ago people had
to live with the problem or the alternant solution.
Sam will do great, he’s a sweet young man. We’ll
always have him in our prayers.
Last night Michelle and Steve came to the Temple and we
visitied with them. Take care a let us know all the updates.
Love, Mom
Let us know when, I would love to bring him a present…that is a big deal for a little boy. Hope it goes well,
